Glug is built on a simple idea: knowing wine is just about knowing what you like. The more you log, the more we learn about you and the better we get at recommending the right bottles. This policy outlines what we collect.

Who we are

What we collect

When you create a Glug account and use the app, we collect the following:

  • Phone number and name — used to create and identify your account
  • Wine ratings and taste preferences — the core of your Glug profile, used to generate personalised recommendations
  • Camera access — used when you photograph a wine list or bottle label. Images are processed to extract wine information and are not stored permanently
  • App usage data — how you interact with the app, used to improve the experience

We do not collect your location, payment information, or any data beyond what is listed above.

How we use your data

  • Create and maintain your Glug account
  • Generate personalised wine recommendations based on your taste profile
  • Improve the app's accuracy and performance over time
  • Send you important account-related messages (not marketing, unless you opt in)

AI processing

Glug uses the Anthropic API to generate wine recommendations. When you photograph a wine list or request a recommendation, your taste profile and relevant wine information is sent to Anthropic's API for processing. This data is used solely to generate your recommendation and is subject to Anthropic's privacy policy.

We do not use your data to train AI models. Anthropic does not retain your data beyond processing each individual request.

Third-party services

Glug uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policy:

  • Anthropic — AI recommendation processing
  • Supabase — secure database and account storage
  • Apple — app distribution and device-level permissions

We do not sell your data to any third party and do not share it with advertisers.

Data retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. Wine list images captured by the camera are not stored after processing. Your taste profile and ratings are stored as long as your account exists.

If you delete your account, all personal data associated with it is permanently deleted within 30 days.

Your rights

You can, at any time:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your account and all associated data
  • Withdraw consent for data collection

To delete your account, go to Settings → Delete Account within the app. You can also email help@glug.app to request deletion directly.

Age

Glug is an alcohol-related app intended for users aged 21 and over in the United States, or the legal drinking age in your country. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone below the legal drinking age. If you believe an underage user has created an account, contact us at help@glug.app and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to this policy

We are in early development. Our data practices may evolve as the app grows. We will update this policy and notify users of any material changes before they take effect. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent update.
